Late afternoon today, the sun was behind us as we walked along the Caroline Bay beach.
So, I turned around to glimpse the setting sun.
I saw the scene above and took a photo.
The hymn “Beyond the Sunset” came to mind suddenly.
I thought, just like that, we all slip through the sunset and beyond. Our Nanay (mum) went through it weeks ago. So my pastor friend’s husband and a previous work colleague a few days ago.
Beyond the sunset, O blissful morning
When with our Saviour heaven’s begun
Earth’s toiling ended, O glorious dawning
Beyond the sunset when day is done.
Beyond the sunset, no clouds will gather
No storms will threaten, no fears annoy
O day of gladness, O day unending
Beyond the sunset, eternal joy.
Beyond the sunset, a hand will guide me
To God the Father whom I adore
His glorious presence, His words of welcome
Will be my portion on that fair shore.
Beyond the sunset, O glad reunion
With our dear loved ones who’ve gone before
In that fair homeland, we’ll know no parting
Beyond the sunset forever more.
As the hymn lyrics go, the story doesn’t end in stanza one. We will have a glad reunion beyond the sunset.
Good evening!

This was sang during my Nanay’s necro service. What a beautiful song and makes us welcome life’s ending with gladness and joy. Thank you, Pastor Jonan for this article.

I like and agree with it, but only in the case where that person had a personal faith do we have that eternal hope. Sadly we don’t all have that with our dearly loved ones, and that is a very painful torture.
