As I strolled along Stafford Street in the heart of downtown Timaru, I caught sight of a small bird resting motionless on the pavement.
Its once-vibrant feathers were dulled, and its delicate body lay still against the rosy pavement, a stark reminder of the fragility of life.
The scene around it was bustling with activity, yet at that moment, the tiny creature seemed isolated and untouched by the world.
What came to my mind right away was the statement of Jesus Christ in Matthew 10:29-31:
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?
Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.
And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
What a great assurance we have from our Heavenly Father.
Indeed, if He cares about each sparrow that falls to the ground, there’s a more significant reason He cares about you.
